• The Treatments

  • I specialise in acupuncture to treat emotional disharmony, anxiety, stress and fertility.

In recent years acupuncture, an ancient practice that involves inserting needles into predetermined points in the body, has grown in popularity as a treatment as it approaches symptoms more holistically, to create calmness and balance between the physical, mental and emotional.

Acupuncture works on the whole person, mentally, physically and emotionally. It can benefit most complaints but where its excellence lies, and where I specialise, is with the complaints that go to the deeper level. These can include emotional disharmony, anxiety, and stress.

Research had shown that acupuncture helps to ease mental and emotional disharmonies by acting on areas of the brain in charge of reducing sensitivity to pain and stress, promoting the relaxation response.

I have 25 years experience and, time and time again, have seen the positive effects that acupuncture has on conditions such as anxiety, stress, depression, insomnia, issues around fertility and other areas of unease.

How these symptoms affect us is unique to each person, therefore, each acupuncture treatment is tailored to each person. There is no ‘one size fits all’ in acupuncture treatments.

Everyone has feelings of anxiety at some point. This is a normal part of our life and most of the time it eases away. Some people, however, suffer from constant feelings of anxiety affecting their daily lives, career, relationship and overall well-being.

Anxiety is the umbrella name given to a number of symptoms such as feelings of:

Panic, phobia, trauma, stress and everyday discomforts in social, work, personal etc. situations.

Stress is a totally normal response. This is OK if the threat is short lived, we will recover without any negative health effect. But, if it continues and we find it hard to cope then we start to see symptoms at different levels.

Some of the symptoms indicative of issues at a deeper level can include, amongst others:

Sleeping problems, digestive disorders. headaches, allergic reactions, poor memory, lack of confidence, feelings of constant pressure, irritability, panic attacks, depression.

Whatever your personal symptoms are, I can assure you that I will provide a safe, secure environment and work with you confidentially, to restore balance and well-being.

We can all have times when we feel emotionally overwhelmed, when thoughts keep going around and around in our heads, when we are on constant high alert without knowing why. This can make us feel anxious and drained.

Sometimes we can pinpoint the trigger of these disharmonies whilst, at others, they seem to spring up from nowhere. What is clear, though, is how very destabilising they are. Acupuncture is a secure and trusted framework to begin to make sense of these disharmonies.

‘Emotions not expressed make us ill.’

Most emotions that are supressed are supressed for good reason. We feel they are so big they will hurt us or destroy our equilibrium. When I treat you I will start by putting down a foundation. This is to make you feel stronger and more connected to your body.

The aim of acupuncture is to remove blockages that hold us back and stop being our best selves, bringing on symptoms of anxiety, stress or emotional disharmony. Once we have removed the blockages, we come back to equilibrium. Balance and well-being are restored and we can be ourselves once more.

These blockages can also cause issues around fertility. Acupuncture has a well established and researched role to play in all aspects of fertility for both men and women.

In preconception, it helps to prepare the body to be as healthy as possible. It can regulate periods and minimise symptoms around your menstrual cycle.

Acupuncture is regularly used and recommended to work alongside assisted fertility cycles as it can increase blood flow to the reproductive organs and balance the endocrine and hormonal systems. It can also minimise the undesired effects of the drugs used during an assisted fertility cycle.

During pregnancy itself, acupuncture can be used for many common issues such as morning sickness, backache and fatigue. It is a natural alternative to over the counter or prescribed medicines.
